Collecting close to $1 million each year in the White Cane Fundraiser, roadway funding is crucial to their mission to benefit the residents of Michigan. Unfortunately, a clarifying decision by the state's Attorney General in 2016 declared their biggest campaign illegal and the program came to a crashing halt.

Our legislative strategy – designed working hand-in-hand with the Lions Councils of Governors – aimed to change the law of the land concerning roadway fundraising. Rep. Shane Hernandez introduced the bill to make those changes, incorporating many of the best practices currently observed by the Lions Club of Michigan.
H.B. 4160 passed the state legislature and was signed into law in July 2017, after seven months of hard work by MLC on an issue that had many previous failed attempts in the statehouse.
