MLC Coverage of Michigan’s Primary Election

Jul 29, 2022

On Tuesday, August 2, Michigan voters will head to the polls to vote in the state’s primary election. MLC will be closely monitoring the elections and following 8 p.m., when the polls close, we will report the results as they are announced on the MLC Blog. This is a big election cycle in the state as all Michigan House and Senate seats are up for election, as well as congressional seats and the office of governor. Additionally, due to redistricting there are a number of incumbents facing one another.

Michigan voters can participate through no-reason absentee voting and are doing so in much larger numbers than the previous gubernatorial election cycle in 2018. Seven days prior to the election, 1,248,013 ballots had been issued, while in 2018 634,474 absentee ballots had been issued at this point. The rise in absentee ballots will add additional time the election workers will need to process and count those votes, which could somewhat delay election results.
