  1. What attracted you to running for the Legislature?

At a young age I was taught the value hard work and giving back to your community. The Legislature has been a goal of mine for many years but I first wanted to create a base of local experience as an elected official andvolunteer.

  1. When did you first realize you were a Democrat?

It’s been most of my life and like most everyone we quantify these things with different life moments. Mostly though it was solidified when I served as a Board Member to the YMCA and worked directly with many people of different walks of life and differentmeans.

a. What attributes of your party do you most identify with? Education, Energy and the Environment, Taxation, Labor

  1. What individuals from your community have shaped and prepared you to be a legislator?

Role models, if that’s what you’re asking, Senator Art Miller, Senator Steve Bieda, Representative Paul Wojno, Governor Blanchard, Mayor JimFouts

  1. What issues would you like to advocate for because of a personal life experience?

Education – Early College Programs. Early College is one of, if not the most significant, cost saving programs to highereducation.

  1. What do you anticipate being the biggest difference serving as a legislator compared with your experience as a local official?

I’m sure there will be many differences, many of which I am yet unaware, but always learning is the bestway.

  1. How has your previous career, political or private sector, shaped the legislator you will be?

It has, along with family. The City of Warren is the third largest city in the State of Michigan and I’ve been a City Councilman there for the past nine years. In the role, I’ve dealt with budgets and economic forecasts and how to make good decisions with goodinformation.

  1. What one thing would you like to highlight that makes your district special?

The can do attitude of our residents. If it’s broke – we fix it. If someone needs help or assistance, we are there to help.

  1. What are some of your favorite activities to participate in on your free time?

In the Fall, its Friday Night Football. Although my kids haven’t played for several years, there is a group of us who still work the chains and down markers for all the games. A few friends of mine and I play golf in the early morning. Otherwise, we have a large family and there is always a game or birthday or holidaygathering.
