Under legislation signed by the Governor in 2014, on January 1, 2106 the minimum wage rate in Michigan will increase from $8.15 to $8.50 for hourly employees and from $3.10 to $3.23 for tipped employees. Under PA 138 of 2014, there will be two additional increases to the minimum wage. On January 1, 2017 the rates increase to $8.90 for hourly employees and $3.38 for tipped employees and on January 1, 2018 the rates will increase to $9.25 for hourly employees and $3.52 for tipped employees. After these increases, the minimum wage will annually be tied to the rate of inflation unless certain criteria develop.
