According to numbers released by the Department of Technology, Management, and Budget, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate last month was 5.3%. The rate is 0.1% higher than the prior month and 0.3% higher than February 2016. The increased rate is being attributed to more workers entering the market. Year-to-year total employment growth increased by 1.8% and the workforce increased by 2.2%.
In the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn market, the February 2017 unemployment rate was 5.9%, an increase of 0.1% from the prior month and 0.5% higher than February 2016. Total employment in the region increased by 4,000, while the number of unemployed increased by 2,000.
