Next Friday, Michigan’s minimum wage will increase from $9.25 to $9.45 per hour under the Workforce Opportunity Wage Act passed in 2018. The minimum wage will also increase for tipped workers from $3.52 to $3.59 per hour. Workers between the ages of 16 to 17 years old will have a minimum wage of 85% of the minimum hourly wage rate.
The minimum wage will continue to increase through 2030 when the rate will be $12.05 per hour. However, if the unemployment rate is 8.5% or greater for the calendar year prior to the calendar year of a scheduled increase, the increase would not take effect.
