MI Clean Water Grants Announced

Under the umbrella of the MI Clean Water plan, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced $5 million in funding to help communities strengthen drinking water infrastructure and ensure safe, affordable tap water statewide. The funding will assist state efforts to support local projects that improve drinking water systems. This includes, replacing lead service lines, enhancing water affordability plans, and connecting homes with contaminated drinking water wells to safe community water supplies.

The MI Clean Water plan is a $500 million investment announced by Governor Whitmer in October. The plan includes a proposal combining federal dollars to fund:

- $102 million to replace lead service lines in low-income communities
- $290 million bonding authority for water quality protection
- $105 million one-time General Fund appropriation for drinking water infrastructure and innovation
- $2.9 million asset management grants to help communities develop, update, and improve their plans for wastewater and stormwater
