Members Appointed to Flint Water Interagency Coordinating Committee

This week, all but one of the members of the Flint Water Interagency Coordinating Committee were announced.  The committee is comprised of seventeen members and is housed within the Michigan State Police.  It is tasked with making recommendations on the health and welfare of individuals exposed to lead, studying Flint’s water infrastructure and determining potential upgrades, reviewing the Flint Water Task Force recommendations, and establishing ways to improve communication between local and state government.  Members will serve three-year terms, expiring December 31, 2018.  Their appointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.  Below are the newly announced members of the committee;

•    Karen Weaver, Mayor of the City of Flint
•    Jamie Curtis, Chairman of the Genesee County Board of Commissioners
•    Marc Edward, Professor at Virginia Tech
•    Mona Hanna-Attisha, Director of the pediatric residency program at Hurley Medical Center and Assistant Professor of pediatrics and human development at Michigan State University
•    Natasha Henderson, Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Flint
•    Jim Koski, retired Saginaw County Drain Commissioner
•    Lawrence Reynolds, President and CEO of Mott Children’s Health Center
•    Laura Sullivan, Professor of mechanical engineering at Kettering University
•    Mark Valacak, Health Officer of the Genesee County Health Department and instructor at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine

Additionally serving on the coordinating committee will be;

•    Harvey Hollins, Director of the Office of Urban Initiatives within the Executive Office
•    Captain Chris Kelenske, Deputy State Director of Emergency and Homeland Security
•    Keith Creagh, Director of the Department of Environmental Quality, or his designee
•    Nick Lyon, Director of the Department of Health and Human Services, or his designee
•    Mike Zimmer, Director of the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, or his designee
•    Nick Khouri, State Treasurer, or his designee
•    Brian Whiston, Superintendent of Public Instruction, or his designee

The final member of the committee will be named at a later date.
