This week, the House and Senate gave final legislative approval to the two omnibus budgets providing appropriations for the upcoming 2016-2017 Fiscal Year. Late additions to the budgets included fourteen capital outlay projects at some public universities and community colleges.
Additionally, the chambers approved supplemental funding for the Flint Water Crisis, including funds to begin replacing lead pipes and to keep the city on the Detroit water system through the summer. The appropriation also contained funding for child care services, expanding fresh produce availability, behavior therapy, and water filters.
The budgets also include funding for Governor Rick Snyder and the Attorney General’s office for litigating the numerous lawsuits that have come as a result of the Flint water crisis. The two omnibus budgets will be sent to Governor Snyder for final approval.
