Legislature May Hold Hearings on Flint Water Crisis

Jan 22, 2016

Representative Ed McBroom (R-Vulcan), chairman of the House Oversight and Ethics Committee, announced his intention to hold hearings on the Flint Water Crisis.  The chairman is waiting for the audit of the Department of Environmental Quality and the Flint Water Task Force’s final report before starting the hearings.  Hearings could begin as early as March.

The Senate Government Operations Committee chairman, Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof (R-West Olive), has not publicly stated his intentions for if or when he will hold similar hearings.  However, Senator Minority Leader Jim Ananich (D-Flint) introduced a resolution on Wednesday that seeks to grant subpoena power to the committee if it does hold hearings.  The resolution was referred to the Senate Government Operations Committee for further consideration.
