Legislation that would exempt high school graduation ceremonies from current COVID-19 restrictions was approved by the legislature this week. The Senate passed a bill that would exempt the ceremonies from Department of Health and Human Services epidemic orders, which currently have restrictions on the number of people allowed to attend public events based on the size of the location. This would allow a school to hold a graduation ceremony in any manner they see fit. The bill has been referred to the House Education Committee for consideration.
The House also passed legislation allowing high schools to hold graduation ceremonies however they choose. It would prohibit any state and local epidemic orders from preventing or limiting high school graduation ceremonies for the 2020-2021 academic year. The bill has been referred to the Senate Education and Career Readiness Committee for consideration.
