On Thursday, Representative Lisa Lyons (R-Alto) introduced legislation requiring a candidate requesting a statewide recount for an election that resulted in more than a 5% difference between the winning candidate and the petition of the recount to pay 100% of the estimated cost of the recount. Under current law, a person requesting a recount is required to pay $125 per-precinct, however that typically doesn’t cover the full cost incurred performing the recount.
The bill was referred to the House Elections Committee, chaired by Representative Lyons. It’s the Chairwomen’s intentions to hear testimony on the bill next week.
