Representative Alex Garza (D-Taylor) will serve as the Chair of Michigan’s Legislative Latino Caucus following caucus elections. Serving as Vice-Chair will be Representative Vanessa Guerra (D-Saginaw). Representative Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown Township) will serve as Treasurer, and Senator Erika Geiss (D-Taylor) will serve as Secretary.
This year, the Michigan Latino Legislative Caucus has already introduced a resolution urging Congress to enact legislation that continues the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and to provide a pathway for permanent resident status for recipients. Nearly 6,400 DACA recipients call Michigan their home. The resolution was referred to the House Government Operations Committee.
