On Tuesday, Lauren Plawecki filed for the 11th House District special primary election. She is the daughter of the late Representative Julie Plawecki, who passed away last month.
As mentioned last week, Democratic precinct delegates in the 11th House District named Jewell Jones to run for the seat. However, he declined to run in the special primary. Following the primary filing date, only one Democratic candidate and one Republican candidate had filed to run for the seat. As such, the special primary election in the 11th House District was cancelled. The two candidates, Ms. Plawecki and Republican candidate Robert Pope, will go head-to-head this November in the special general election. The winning candidate will serve the remainder of the late Representative’s term, ending December 31, 2016.
The district will hold a primary election for the term beginning January 1, 2017. In that race there are two Republican candidates and one Democratic candidate who have filed. While declining the special election, Jewell Jones has filed to run in this election.
