Last month, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Michigan was 5%, which was the same as the prior month. According to numbers released by the Department of Technology, Management, and Budget this week, employment in Michigan increased by 9,000 for the month, while the number of unemployed was unchanged. June marked the second consecutive month of growth in the state’s workforce. While the rate has significantly declined as the pandemic continues to head toward an end, the rate remained 1.3% points above the February 2020, pre-pandemic level.
During June, the national unemployment rate increased by a tenth of a percentage point to 5.9%.
