June Unemployment Rate Decreases

According to numbers released this week by the Department of Technology, Management and Budget, Michigan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for June 2016 was 4.6%, the lowest the rate has been since February 2001. The rate is a decrease of one-tenth of a percentage point from the prior month, and seven-tenths of a percentage point below the June 2015 rate. However, total employment declined by 25,000 during the month of June, while the number of unemployed declined by 5,000.

In the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn market, the unemployment rate for June 2016 was 5.1%, a decrease of one-tenth of a percentage point from the prior month and one percent lower than the June 2015 rate.
