This week, legislation was reported by the House Workforce and Talent Development Committee that aims to improve career training in Michigan. Under the legislation, as reported by the committee, state government would be required to share employment information to evaluate programs and improve curriculums to better prepare residents for the job market. Current state law does not allow community colleges or job training agencies to access the information. “Michigan is facing a shortfall of talent to fill the jobs in the career and technical sectors. These bills are a great step towards helping our community colleges prepare residents to fill the jobs of tomorrow,” stated Brendan Ringlever of MLC. The legislation includes protections to ensure individual’s confidentiality. The bills have been referred to the House floor for further consideration.
