According to numbers released this week by the Department of Technology, Management, and Budget, Michigan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in January increased by one-tenth of a percentage point to 5.2%. The state’s workforce increased by 24,000 during the month, total employment increased by 18,000, and the number of unemployed increased by 6,000. During January, the national unemployment rate also increased by one-tenth of a percentage point, to a rate of 4.8%.
In the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn market, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for January also increased by one-tenth of a percentage point, to a rate of 5.8%. The workforce advanced by 4,000, the number of total employment increased by 1,000, and the number of unemployed increased by 3,000.
