Infrastructure Commission Launches Website, Announces Tour

Jul 15, 2016

On Monday, the 21st Century Infrastructure Commission launched its website to gather public input and provide updates on the commission’s work.  The site features opportunities for residents to participate in online discussions and polls, learn about upcoming events, and find recent news stories related to the state’s infrastructure.  You can visit their website at http://www.miinfrastructurecommission.com/.

Additionally, they announced a three-stop, statewide tour that will provide additional opportunities for the public to meet with commissioners and offer suggestions.  The first stop will be in Grand Rapids on July 21, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Grand Valley State University.  The other two stops will be in Marquette and Detroit, additional details on those stops will be announced at a later date.

The Commission was created through Executive Order in March, with the purpose of identifying long-term strategies to ensure the state’s infrastructure remains safe and efficient.  Additionally, they will identify strategic best practices to modernize Michigan’s transportation, water and sewer, energy, and communications infrastructure.

The Commission is comprised of twenty-seven state and independent industry experts.  They serve as an advisory board within the Executive Office.  They must present an infrastructure assessment and its recommendations no later than November 30, 2016.
