House Votes to Increase Juror Pay

May 05, 2017

This week, the House of Representatives approved legislation increasing juror pay.  Representative Peter Lucido (R-Shelby Twp.), introduced the bills in February with the goal of increasing juror pay by $5, if the state’s Juror Compensation Reimbursement Fund has more than $2 million over the two previous fiscal years.  The Juror Compensation Reimbursement Fund, reimburses local and county courts for jury-related costs.  Currently, jurors are paid $25 for the first full day of trial ($12.50 for a half day), increasing to $40 for each following full day and $20 for a half day.

Following their unanimous favorable vote in the House, the bills were referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee for further consideration.
