House Republicans Announce Reforms to Unemployment Insurance Agency

In response to problems over the past year, the House Republican Caucus introduced a series of reforms to the Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA).  Members hope the package will achieve better customer service, promote accountability, and provide clarity to residents. Specifics reforms include:

    • The UIA will be required to complete reviews and determinations within 10 business days
    • The current three-year look back will change to one year
    • Creation of a new independent citizens’ advocate to serve as a point-of-contact for residents
    • Require the UIA to provide timely data regarding the status of the agency’s trust fund that is used to pay out benefits
