House Passes COVID-19 Liability Protections

This week the House passed a package of bills aimed at providing liability protections for businesses, related to COVID-19. The bills would provide protection for a business from facing civil liability if a visitor or employee claim to have contracted COVID-19 at their facility. However, in order to be protected from liability, they must be taking reasonable steps to follow public health guidelines. Additionally, the package prohibits an employee who either tests positive for COVID-19 or who displays principal symptoms, or who came into contact with a person who has tested positive, from going into work. It also prohibits an employer from taking retaliating actions against that employee. The bills will be sent to the Senate for consideration.
