A multi-bill package was introduced this week making changes to the way taxes paid on fuel are distributed. The plan would eliminate the sales tax on fuel over the next three-years and replace it with an equivalent, revenue-neutral tax on fuel, which would be dedicated solely to roads. It’s estimated the proposal would generate $800 million more per year for roads and bridges. The revenue would be prioritized for roads managed by local municipalities. The legislation has been referred to the House Appropriations Committee for consideration.
