House Committee to Tackle Infrastructure Problems

Apr 19, 2019

The House Transportation Committee will begin six weeks of special hearings to discuss Michigan road funding and the quality of our roads. Committee Chairman Jack O’Malley (R-Lake Ann) announced the goal of the increased number of committee meetings is to take a more comprehensive look inside the road system and how to deliver the best return on investment for taxpayers. The next hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, April 16 at 10:30 a.m.

The issue of the state’s declining infrastructure continues to be at the forefront of discussions in the legislature and the executive office. Governor Gretchen Whitmer has proposed increasing the gas tax to pay for repairs, but the Republican House and Senate leaders have both stated they do not support her proposal and will work to find their own solution.
