The House Judiciary Committee reported legislation aiming to increase privacy rights for crime victims in Michigan. Currently, Michigan has laws in place to ensure privacy for crime victims by exempting pictures and videos of victims from FOIA requests of government records. The legislation, introduced by Representative Ken Borton (R-Gaylord), would expand current laws to allow for victims’ images to be blurred during a court proceeding that is streamed online. The bill has been sent to the House floor for further consideration.
