House Approves of COVID-19 Funding

This week, the House unanimously passed legislation appropriating $880 million in Federal Aid in the response to the outbreak. The bill, which originated in the Senate, was returned to the chamber where they voted to concur in changes to the bill by the House. It will be sent to Governor Whitmer for her approval.

Funding within the bill includes:

    • $200 million to help local governments continue to pay public safety and public health personnel
    • $100 million for a ‘restart’ grant program to small businesses with less than 50 full-time employees
    • $100 million for hazard pay for law enforcement, firefighters, corrections officers, emergency medical services providers
    • $29 million to boost staffing at the Unemployment Insurance Agency
    • $25 million for devices to improve internet connectivity for low income and rural families
    • $18 million in school district grants to support the health and safety of students and teachers
    • $4 million for organizations support victims of domestic abuse
