House and Senate Committee Changes

For the remainder of the legislative term, Speaker Kevin Cotter (R-Mount Pleasant) has made replacement committee assignments to fill the committee vacancies created by the resignation of former Representative Kurt Heise (R-Plymouth Township).  Below are the new assignments:

  • Speaker-elect Representative Tom Leonard (R-DeWitt Townships), Chairman of the Criminal Justice Committee
  • Representative Aric Nesbitt (R-Lawton), member of the Elections Committee
  • Representative Henry Vaupel (R-Handy Township), member of the Local Government Committee
  • Representative Pat Somerville (R-New Boston), member of the Judiciary Committee

Following the special election of Senator Ian Conyers (D-Detroit), the Senator has been given the following committee assignments:

  • Banking and Financial Institutions Committee
  • Economic Development and International Investment Committee, Minority Vice Chair
  • Energy and Technology Committee
  • Transportation Committee, minority vice chair
