On Tuesday, Governor Rick Snyder announced the appointment of Michael Pope to the 32nd Circuit Court in Gogebic and Ontonagon Counties. The appointment fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Judge Roy D. Gotham. Judge Pope had been a private practice attorney since 1993, focusing on a general insurance defense practice. He also teaches criminal law at Gogebic Community College. Judge Pope earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and history from Alma College and a law degree from the University of Detroit-Mercy Law School. He must seek election in November 2016 for the remainder of the term and again in 2020 for a full term.
