Governor Signs Key Legislative Initiatives

This week, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed key pieces of legislation appropriating billions of dollars in federal funding. The first was a bipartisan supplemental, which provides:

- $150 million for COVID school testing
- $140 million for rental assistance
- $36.3 million to help communities tackle lead, fund water distribution, inspections, blood testing, and more
- $14.1 million for a Nursing Home Strike Teams grant
- $10 million to support teacher recruitment, training, development, and retention
- $6.9 million for public safety

Additionally, the governor signed legislation creating the Strategic Outreach and Attraction Reserve package, providing $1 billion to help support small businesses and economic development. The package also provides $500 million to help the state’s economy be more adaptable to the rapid pace of technological change, support small business, and create or retain good-paying jobs.
