This week, Governor Rick Snyder signed an Executive Order creating a new council to ensure continued coordination of resources for individuals with disabilities. The new Developmental Disabilities Council will be housed within the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. It will be comprised of twenty-one members appointed by the Governor and representing individuals with disabilities and advocates or representatives of organizations supporting those with disabilities. Of the members, one-third will be individuals with developmental disabilities, and one-third of the individuals will be parents or guardians of an individual with developmental disabilities or immediate relatives or guardians of an adult with mentally impairing developmental disabilities who cannot advocate for themselves.
Governor Snyder will announce his appointees in December. To read the full Executive Order, please click here.
