On Thursday, following a request by Attorney General Bill Schuette, Governor Rick Snyder requested that the internal investigation into the Flint water crisis be placed on hold. According to the Attorney General and Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton, the investigations may cause an obstruction to the criminal investigation. Following their request, the Governor asked the Auditor General and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Inspector General to hold off on their investigations for the time being. While the Governor can order the DHHS inspector to suspend the audit, he doesn’t have that authority over the Auditor General because that office reports to the legislature.
