Governor Makes Judicial Appointments

Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced appointments to various Circuit Courts in Michigan. The first, is the appointment of District Court Judge Christopher M. Blount to the 3rd Circuit Court of Wayne County, effective April 18. He currently serves as a Judge in the 36th District Court in Detroit. Prior to his appointment to the bench, Judge Blount was a private practice attorney and a deputy defender with the State Defender Office. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from Wayne State University Law School and holds Bachelor and Master degrees from Wayne State University. He’s replacing Judge Noah Hood, who was appointed to the Court of Appeals.

Also appointed to the 3rd Circuit Court is Susan Dabaja, who is currently a sole practitioner. She holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Ms. Dabaja previously served as the president of the Dearborn City Council for 8 years and is the current co-chair of the Dearborn Education Foundation. Her appointment is effective April 18, replacing Judge Bruce Morrow who retired.

37th District Court Judge Matthew P. Sabaugh has been appointed to the 16th Circuit Court of Macomb County. In the District Court, he serves as the chief judge pro tem the presiding judge of the Treatment Court, and he started Macomb County’s first eviction diversion program. Additionally, he serves as an adjunct professor for the paralegal program at Macomb Community College. Prior to his appointment to the bench, Judge Sabaugh was an assistant prosecutor for Macomb County and a legislative staffer in the Michigan House of Representatives. He earned his Juris Doctor degree and Bachelor of Science in Resource Management from Michigan State University. His term is effective April 13, filling an opening due to the retirement of Judge Carl Marlinga.
