Governor Gretchen Whitmer appointed Amy C. Clapp to serve on the 49th Circuit Court of Mecosta and Osceola Counties. She currently serves as prosecutor for Mecosta County, a role she’s been in since 2021. Prior to that she was the chief assistant prosecutor. Ms. Clapp has also worked as a private practice attorney, in the areas of criminal misdemeanors and felonies, estate planning, divorce and child custody, and civil litigation.
Ms. Clapp earned her Juris Doctor degree from Michigan State University Law School and Bachelor of Science degree from Aquinas College. The appointment fills a partial term, which will commence on August 22, 2022, and expires on January 1, 2025, following the retirement of Judge Scott Hill-Kennedy effective June 10, 2022. If she wishes to seek a full six-year term, she will need to run for reelection in November 2024.
Judicial appointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
