Alida J. Bryant has been appointed to serve on the 17th Circuit Court of Kent County by Governor Gretchen Whitmer. She currently serves as the District Court Chief for the Kent County Defender’s Office, a role she’s held since 2021. Prior to that, Ms. Bryant was a staff attorney with the Defender’s Office handling litigation ranging from retail fraud to capital offenses. The appointment fills a partial term, commencing on August 15, 2022, and expiring on January 1, 2025. It fills the open seat, due to the appointment of Judge Christopher Yates to the Michigan Court of Appeals.
Ms. Bryant holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Accounting from Mount St. Mary’s University and earned her Juris Doctor degree from Drake University Law School.
