Last Friday, Governor Rick Snyder announced the appointments of eighteen members to the Public Health Advisory Commission. The twenty-four-member commission will complete an assessment of the current public health service delivery system in Michigan, at both the state and local level. Including a review of:

The organization of public health functions within and across the executive departments of Michigan;

The division of responsibilities between state and local public health authorities;
-
The regulatory framework established by the Public Health Code.
The commission will complete its work and issue a final report to Governor Snyder for his consideration no later than April 1, 2017. Dr. Eden Wells, the state’s Chief Medical Executive, will be a voting member and serve as chair. The Governor appointed to the commission:

Cynthia Aaron – medical director for the Children’s Hospital of Michigan Regional Poison Control Center

Eric Adelman – executive director of Kadima

Denise Chrysler – director of Network for Public Health Law Mid-States Regional Center at the University of Michigan

Abdul El-Sayed – executive director and health officer for the Detroit Health Department

William Fales – associate dean for clinical applications, chief of EMS and Disaster Medicine, program director of the EMS fellowship program and an associate professor at Western Michigan University

Kathleen Forzley – health officer for Oakland County Health Division

Mark Fowler – water/wastewater superintendent for Boyne City
-
Debra Furr-Holden – C.S. Mott Endowed Professor of Public Health at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine

Robert Gouin – environmental health director of Mid-Michigan District Health Department

Mona Hanna-Attisha – director of the pediatric residency program at Hurley Medical Center in Flint and is an assistant professor of pediatrics and human development at Michigan State University

Chris Kolb – president and CEO of the Michigan Environmental Council

Dianne Malburg, chief operations officer of the Michigan Pharmacists Association

Bill Manns – president of Trinity Health/Mercy Health Saint Mary’s

Susie Meshigaud – director of health and human services of Hannahville Indian Community

Kristen Schweighoefer – environmental health director of Washtenaw County Public Health

Ann Sheehan – assistant professor at Michigan State University College of Nursing

Michelle Styma – CEO of Thunder Bay Community Health Services, Inc.

Melina Wilkins – director of the Online Master of Science Food Safety with the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University
