Governor Makes Appointments to Liquor Control Commission

Aug 23, 2019

On Wednesday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced two appointments to the Michigan Liquor Control Commission, serving terms expiring June 12, 2023. The appointees succeed Teri Quimby and Andy Deloney whose terms expired June 12, 2019.

Patrick Gagliardi has been appointed to the commission and will serve as Chair. Currently, he owns a consulting firm. Previously, Mr. Gagliardi was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives, serving as the Democratic Floor Leader and chair of the Tourism Committee and the Oversight and Ethics Committee. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Lake Superior State University.

Also appointed was Geralyn Lasher, who currently serves as the senior deputy director for External Relations and Communications for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Previously she served as the interim executive director of the Michigan Health Endowment Fund, director of communications for former Governor Rick Snyder, and director of communications for the Michigan Department of Community Health. Ms. Lasher holds a Bachelor of Arts in Advertising from Michigan State University.

Both appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.

The commission is responsible for being the sole wholesaler for all spirit products in the state, and the licensing of the manufacture and sale of all beer, wine, distilled spirits, and mixed drinks in Michigan. It is responsible for the enforcement of the state’s liquor laws and the collection of excise and specific taxes on beer, wine, distilled spirits, and mixed spirit drinks.
