Governor Makes Appointments to Board of Psychology

Jan 06, 2017

This week, Governor Rick Snyder announced the appointment of Gail Majcher of Northville, as well as the reappointment of Sara Van Wormer of Ferndale to the Michigan Board of Psychology.  Appointees serve four-year terms expiring December 31, 2020.  Their appointments are subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.

Gail Majcher is a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist at Gail Majcher Inc. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, as well as a master’s degree in marriage and family counseling, an education specialist’s degree, and a Ph.D. from Wayne State University. She will represent professionals and replaces Martin Waalkes.

Sara Van Wormer is a professor of psychology at Macomb Community College-Warren. She previously served as a therapist for Oakland Psychological Clinic and Advanced Counseling Services in Bloomfield Hills and as a project coordinator for Michigan Project for Informed Public Policy. Ms. Van Wormer holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Western Michigan University and a master’s degree in educational psychology from the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis. She will continue to represent professionals.

The nine-member board, housed within the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, evaluates and determines minimal entry level competency of health practitioners, and takes disciplinary action against any misconduct of licensees.
