Governor Makes Appointment to Public Service Commission

Governor Gretchen Whitmer has appointed Tremaine Phillips to serve on the Michigan Public Service Commission. This is her second nomination to the board since taking office in January 2019. Currently, Mr. Phillips is the director of the Cincinnati 2030 District. Previously, he worked at Empower Gas and Electric, LLC and the Michigan Environmental Council, served as assistant deputy director of the Department of Energy, Labor, and Economic Growth during the Granholm administration, and interned with the White House Council on Environmental Quality. His term expires July 2, 2025. Mr. Phillips fills the vacancy left by Norm Saari, whose term on the board ended on July 2, 2019. The appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.

The Michigan Public Service Commission is a public body composed of three members appointed by the governor, of which no more than two commissioners may represent the same political party. Its tasked with ensuring Michigan residents have access to safe and reliable energy and telecommunications services.
