Governor Makes Appointment to Circuit Court

Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the appointment of Yasmine Isshak Poles to the 6^th Circuit Court in Oakland County. Currently she serves in private practice, specializing in criminal defense, custody, and employment matters. Prior to that Ms. Isshak Poles served as an assistant prosecuting attorney in Macomb County for 12 years.

Ms. Isshak Poles is a member of the Governor’s Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect, Chaldean Chamber of Commerce, Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan, Michigan Association of Justice, and the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Michigan and earned her Juris Doctor degree from Wayne State University School of Law.

The appointment fills a partial term, which will expire on January 1, 2023. The seat was left open after Judge Hala Y. Jarbou stepped down following her appointment to the United States District Court of the Western District of Michigan. Judicial appointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
