Governor, Legislature Reach Supplemental Funding Deal

Mar 25, 2022

Under an agreement reached by Governor Whitmer and legislative leaders, $4.7 billion would be appropriated for water infrastructure, road and bridge repairs, high-speed internet connectivity, state and local parks, and housing, among other items. Of that funding, $3.1 billion is from federal COVID relief funding, $945.4 million from the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and $571.6 million from the state’s general fund.

Specific aspects within the appropriation include:

    • Repair failing septic systems, replace lead service lines, and help communities tackle toxic contaminants including PFAS.
    • Fix more roads and bridges, shore up pumping stations to clear floods, and improve public transportation.
    • Connect more households and small businesses to fast, reliable high-speed internet.
    • Improve state and local parks and trails to enhance tourism and boost the outdoor recreation industry.
    • Help families stay in their homes, fund construction of affordable housing units, and home repairs.

The House and Senate voted to approve the supplemental funding on Thursday and the bill will be sent to the governor for her consideration.
