On Thursday, Governor Rick Snyder signed an Executive Order creating the 21st Century Economy Commission. The commission will set goals and establish metrics to measure Michigan’s economic success, identify the potential for new industry growth, develop strategies to support existing industry, and make recommendations that will distinguish the state as a center for innovation. Additionally, the commission will set priorities for the next twenty years and identify short-term and long-term goals for the state’s economic future.
The twenty three member commission will include eleven voting members appointed by the Governor, four voting members appointed by the state Legislature and eight department directors or agency directors (or their designee). Serving as an advisory body, the commission has been directed to complete its work and provide a final report by June 30, 2017.
