Governor Announces Vaccine Incentive Program

Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the creation of the MI Shot to Win Sweepstakes, a lottery-style raffle incentivizing Michigan residents to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Currently, just over 60% of residents age 16 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine. The state is working towards their goal of vaccinating 70% of eligible residents. The governor believes this program can help Michigan reach the goal. Other states have implemented similar programs to encourage their residents to receive the vaccine.

Under the program, residents 18 and older who have received one dose of the vaccine are eligible to register for a combined total of $5 million in cash giveaways, including:

- One $2 million drawing
- One $1 million drawing
- Thirty $50,000 daily drawings

In addition, the sweepstakes will offer the opportunity to win one of nine scholarships available to vaccinated residents between the ages of 12-17. Each scholarship prize consists of a four-year Michigan Education trust charitable tuition contract, valued at $55,000.
