On Tuesday, Governor Rick Snyder announced several senior staff changes within the executive office. Elizabeth Clement, currently the governor’s deputy chief of staff and cabinet secretary, will become chief legal counsel. Mike Zimmer director of the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), will become the governor’s cabinet director, responsible for coordinating efforts with department directors and staff. The current chief deputy of LARA, Shelley Edgerton, will become the new department director, subject to the advice and consent of the Senate. Beth Emmitt, who has served as the governor’s director of scheduling since 2011 and in other critical roles, will take over as deputy chief of staff. Anna Heaton, currently the governor’s deputy press secretary, will become press secretary. And lastly, Josh Paciorek, communications manager for the governor, is being promoted to deputy press secretary.
Additionally, it was announced last week that the governor’s education advisor, Karen McPhee, has resigned her position held since March 2015. Governor Snyder has not yet named her replacement.
