Governor Announces Additional Staff, Department Directors

On Monday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced additional members of the Executive Office.

  • Legislative Director – Greg Bird, Director of State Relations at Wayne State University, former press secretary to the Speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives.
  • Policy Director – Emily Laidlaw, associate at Karoub Associates and former Director of Government Relations at the Michigan Association of Intermediate School Administrators.
  • Appointments Director – Ghida Dagher, Director of Government Partnerships and Community Affairs for United Way for Southeastern Michigan. 
  • Constituent Services Director – Scottie Barton, Whitmer for Governor committee liaison, former executive assistant to then-Ingham County Prosecutor Whitmer.
  • Scheduling Director – Mary Hannaford, Whitmer for Governor scheduler, former interim chief of staff to former Senator Rebekah Warren.
  • Press Secretary – Tiffany Brown, Public Information Officer for the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, former Public Information Officer for the Michigan State Police.

Additionally, over the holiday break Governor Whitmer announced the following department directors:

  • Department of Technology, Management, and Budget – Tricia Foster, former Senior Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of CBRB/Martin and CRBE/Grand Rapids.
  • Department of Talent and Economic Development (Acting Director) – Stephanie Beckhorn, Director of the Workforce Development Agency.
  • Department of Health and Human Services (Acting Director) – Farah Hanley, Deputy Director for Financial Operations for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
  • Department of Transportation – Paul Ajegba, served for 28 years in various roles throughout the Department of Transportation.
  • Department of Environmental Quality – Liesl Eichler Clark, co-founder and partner of 5 Lakes Energy.
  • Department of Natural Resources – Daniel Eichinger, Executive Director of Michigan United Conservation Clubs.
  • Department of Agriculture and Rural Development – Gary McDowell, owner and operator of McDowell Brothers Farm and McDowell Hay, Inc., and former State Representative.
  • Michigan State Police – Captain Joe Gasper, Emergency Manager for the Michigan State Police.
  • Department of Corrections – Heidi Washington will continue to serve in her current role as Director of the Department of Corrections.
  • Department of Military and Veterans Affairs – Brigadier General Paul Rogers, Deputy Commander of the 46th Military Police Command.
  • Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs – Orlene Hawks, Director of the Office of Children’s Ombudsman.
  • Department of Insurance and Financial Services – Anita Fox, attorney specializing in litigating a wide range of business and insurance issues.
  • Office of the Children’s Ombudsman – Lisa McCormick, Ingham County Chief Assistant Prosecutor.
