General Election Overview: 96th House District

District Overview

The 96^th House District is located in Bay County. The seat includes Bay City, Essexville, Bangor Township, Beaver Township, Frankenlust Township, Fraser Township, Garfield Township, Hampton Township, Kawkawlin Township, Merritt Township, Monitor Township, and Portsmouth Township.

Commentary

This newly drawn district has a 50.3% Democratic base, however, portions of this district heavily voted in favor of former President Trump in 2020. Representative Beson is running for his second term in office and has proven to be able to gather support from the center left too. His opponent in the race, Kim Coonan, has local government experience serving on a county board of commissioners.

Democratic Candidate:

- Kim Coonan – Bay County Commissioner, small business owner, past president of the Utilities Workers Union of America, retired union negotiator.

Republican Candidate:

- Representative Timothy Beson – State representative, small business owner.
