General Election Overview: 76th House District

Through the general election on November 3, the MLC Blog will be highlighting races generally considered swing seats, ones either party could win because of the voter base. Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.

District Overview

This mid-Michigan district is located in a portion of Eaton County, including Charlotte, Eaton Rapids, Delta Township, among several other local areas.

Commentary

This newly drawn district has a 51.7% Democratic base, making it quite competitive. Representative Witwer is running for her third term in office. While she has the advantage of being the incumbent and is serving as the House Democratic Caucus Campaign Chair, her Republican opponent has a history of serving in local government, which gives him name recognition as well. Given the new district lines, and the two candidates, this is one of the races to watch this November.

Democratic Candidate:

- Representative Angela Witwer – State representative, small business owner, former healthcare worker.

Republican Candidate:

- Jeremy Whittum – Chair for the Eaton County Board of Commissioners, Army veteran, economics professor at Kellogg Community College.
