General Election Overview: 44th House District

District Overview

The 44^th House District includes portions of Calhoun County.

Commentary

The Democratic party has a slight edge in this district with a 52% base. Redistricting moved this district more toward the middle, giving Republicans a better shot at this seat than in past years. Representative Haadsma is running for his third term in office, facing Dave Morgan for the third time. While the incumbent traditionally has the edge and Rep. Haadsma is popular and works hard, given the new district demographics, this will be a race to watch this November.

Democratic Candidate:

- Representative Jim Haadsma – State representative, attorney.

Republican Candidate:

- Dave Morgan – Veteran, former locomotive engineer, former Pennfield Township supervisor.
