Through the general election on November 8, on every Tuesday and Thursday on the MLC Blog we will be highlighting races for which due to the voter base the seat could be won by either the Democratic or Republican candidate.  Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available, in addition to a portion of endorsements (when applicable).

District Overview

The 43^rd House District is located in Oakland County.  It includes Independence Township, Lake Angelus, the Village of Clarkston, and a portion of Waterford Township.  The district has a 58% Republican base.

Commentary

Representative Jim Tedder (R-Clarkston) is running for his second term in office, after winning 58% of the general election vote in 2014.  Given the strong GOP base he is favored to win this November.  Additionally, the Democratic candidate, Ted Villella, doesn’t have previous experience running for public office.

During his first term in office, Representative Tedder has served as vice chair of the Workforce and Talent Development Committee, and is a member of the Committees on Education, Health Policy, and Communications and Technology.

Democratic Candidate:

• Ted Villella – Small business owner.
  • General Endorsements – Planned Parenthood of Michigan, Michigan Laborers.

Republican Candidate:

• Jim Tedder – Public school teacher.
  • Primary Endorsements – Michigan Realtors Association, Michigan Fraternal Order of Police, Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce, County Road Association of Michigan.
