General Election Overview: 40th House District

District Overview

The 40^th House District is located in Oakland County and includes Birmingham, Bloomfield Township, Bloomfield Hills, and a portion of West Bloomfield Township.

Commentary

Republican Representative Mike McCready is serving his third and final term in this seat. The district has a 52% Republican base but voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016, so is considered one of the more competitive races in the state this year.

Democratic Candidate:

Mari Manoogian – Worked for the Office of English Programs and the Office of eDiplomacy at the U.S. Department of State, interned for then-Congressman John Dingell, the Council on Foreign Relations, and for Ambassador Samantha Power at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations

Republican Candidate:

David Wolkinson – Attorney, owns and manages multi-family apartment buildings, former Vice Chairman of the Michigan Republican Party
