General Election Overview: 39th House District

Oct 02, 2018

Through the general election on November 6, the MLC Blog will be highlighting races generally considered swing seats, ones either party could win because of the voter base.  Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.

District Overview

The 39th House District is in Oakland County and includes Commerce Township, Wixom, and a portion of West Bloomfield Township.

 Commentary

Republican Representative Klint Kesto is serving his third and final term in this office. The race features three candidates who have never held public office. The district has a 54% Republican base. Democrats see this as key district to win if they want to take back majority. Former Representative and Democrat Lisa Brown represented part of this district, but Democrats were never able to topple Klint Kesto who is now term limited. Democratic candidate Jennifer Suidan will need to work hard to win this seat, but Democrats are optimistic. Republican Ryan Berman, an attorney in Bloomfield Hills, was victorious in a heated GOP primary. Berman hopes to translate that primary victory into a successful general election campaign.

Democratic Candidate:

  • Jennifer Suidan – Legal assistant working in campaign finance and election law, served campaign manager for Oakland County Treasurer Andy Meisner

Republican Candidate:

  • Ryan Berman – General practice attorney, reserve police officer

 Libertarian Candidate:
